New Thai Recipe: Flakey Chicken Pastries (also called "Thai Pies" or "Curry Puff")
Tuesday January 20, 2009
If you like the combination of chicken and pastry, check out my new Thai recipe: Thai Chicken Pastries. I wasn't sure what to call these delicious mini pies, which can be found as a snack food in Thailand as well as other Southeast-Asian countries (in southern Thailand and Malaysia they are often called "Curry Puff"). In any case, these Thai pies are deee-licious! I thought I made a huge batch, but they were gone in a day, the majority surprisingly devored by the kids. This chicken pastries recipe includes homemade pastry instructions - it's really easy to make, especially if you have a food processor - and it turns out nice and flakey. Or you can take a short-cut and buy puff pastry or regular pie pastry from the store. While in Thailand these pies would be deep-fried, here I've saved some calories and fat by baking them, which I find just as delicious. Wonderful for lunch, or add a side salad and have them for dinner (my husband even eats them for breakfast with his coffee!). ENJOY! (photo by D. Schmidt)More Thai Snacks and Savories:
