Darlene Anne Schmidt fell in love with Thai food while traveling throughout Thailand ten years ago. Since then, she has specialized in recreating both classic and new Thai recipes. Aside from creating recipes, taking photographs, and writing up articles on Thai food, she is often called upon to teach Thai cooking classes. She lives in Canada with her Southeast-Asian husband, two cats (not Siamese, though!), and two dogs.
Experience:
Darlene has taught cooking and writing extensively. Many of her students have been, in fact, from Thailand. While she enjoys immersing herself in the total cooking experience, nurturing her creations from garden to table, she is also a master at simplifying recipes for those new to Thai cooking.
Education:
Darlene Anne Schmidt holds a Master of Arts degree in Composition. She has also taken numerous Thai cooking classes both in Thailand and in Canada.
From Darlene Schmidt:
While I have always enjoyed cooking, it was one epiphanic moment seated on a beach in Thailand slurping Tom Yum soup, experiencing the taste explosion of Thai spices in my mouth, that inspired me to pursue and promote Siamese cuisine. Nothing, in my opinion, can rival the exquisite taste of Thai food which reflects the complex culture of this ancient 6000-year-old land of friendly, soft-spoken people.
